A portrait of my children once a week, every week, in 2013

Charlie:  Your spirit of adventure is flying high this week.  Always the first to climb the hill, jump into the sea or leap into action.
Rufus: Loves picking flowers for his mummy, and being as cheeky as can be.

Water, water everywhere... on holiday in Cornwall.

Oh yes, we are off to Cornwall tomorrow.  For a week's holiday staying in the most beautiful of places.  The Lizard Peninsular.

We are so so lucky to be staying in this spectacular property, I cannot wait to wake up in that loft room, throw open the balcony doors to the meadow below, jump back into bed and listen to the bird song.  It is going to be a real treat to stay somewhere so very special.

We are of course hoping for warm days spent rock pooling, crab catching, boating on the Helford River.  Maybe a trip to the Eden Project and National Trust properties.  But above all enjoying spending time as a family.  Laughing, eating good food and having fun.

I won't be blogging during my holiday, in fact I plan to have an unplugged family time - not sure how I'm going to manage this but I shall try.  I will, of course, blog about it ALL on my return.  There will be no Nature in the Home next week, so for those who are joining in you have 2 weeks to find your green thing of beauty! ;)

So, have a wonderful week, dear friends.  I cannot wait to tell you all about our adventures on my return.  If you miss me you can read all about our Cornwall journey last year.

Speak soon!

Nature in the Home - a series (week 12)...

I love this image.  Blooms foraged from the garden, gently laid out on a pretty vintage plate.  It is so delicate and the colours are so vivid.

Lisbeth's blog is one of my very favourites and we have followed each others lives for many years now. She lives in Denmark in a uniquely decorated home, living a waldorf inspired gentle life with her gorgeous family.  She has such great taste and I LOVE her sense of style, her wardrobe is to die for!. In Denmark, Spring has just arrived after the snow, what a wonderful time that must be.  Pop over and see what I mean!

So - I gave a theme of Pink for this week.  I am looking forward to seeing how this has developed.  Pink is such a happy colour, it helps with depression you know?  So lay it on me... bring on the pink.

Next week - Green.... foliage and green flowers (hard one eh?!).
Good luck.

Kinfolk - Flower Pot Luck...

I am just loving all the blogs and floral feasts from the Kinfolk Flower Pot Luck events.  So many beautiful blogs, photographers, florists and food stylists to discover too.  I just love following the links.

This one above was held in Brooklyn, NYC and is particularly beautiful.  A small gathering of people, made delicate ivy crowns and floral bouquets, and then feasted on delicious food.

A wondrous day if you ask me!  Oh how I'd love to have attended. I shall just have to do my own feast... what do you think?

All images are from the stunning blog - La Buena Vida.

Open studios...

Last weekend we took a short stroll from home to our local open studios at Spike Island.
Opening once a year to the public, it is a treat to wander from studio to studio and feel so inspired.
The studio collective houses a great mix of painters, sculptors, contemporary and classic art all under one roof.  Each studio a real working space, warts and all.  I loved the paint splats and the crazy objects everywhere.
The boys ran from studio to studio, shouting out 'come and see this!' - we couldn't help to find their enthusiasm infectious.
Leaving, scooting back across the bridge to home, Rufus told me he wanted a studio to paint and draw and make a mess!
Lets hope he does.

Spring? Summer? Winter?

Friday!
(skips around the table).
I know it was only a 4 day week here, but come on - that week was LONG!
We've had balmy sunny days, so hot all you can do is lie down in the shade (and lie down I did).
To freezing winds - and yes my heating went back on.
In one week it seems we've had all four seasons.  It's crazy.

I'd like Summer please... warmth, sun-kissed skin, the smell of sun cream, eating al fresco, and ice cream.  Oh yes please!
I've been pinning summer to my Summer Time board.  Is this how summer is to you?
What do you love most about it?

Have an awesome weekend.  We are celebrating a 40th birthday with great food and family.  And then the following day a 7th birthday with games in the park.
Enjoy your days off.

Nature in the Home - a series... (Week 11)

Sorry I am a little late today for the link up.  These weeks are seeming to fly by at the moment.

Last Wednesday it was May Day.  So, following the Pagan tradition I filled some tiny jam jars of small blooms from the garden, Cowslips, Forget me Knots & Primroses.  Tied some garden twine around the neck of the jar to make a handle and hung them on my friends doors as a surprise.

Partly to welcome in May and more so to let them know I appreciate their friendship.  One friend said I was like a May Day fairy... I liked that!!  I think it is a tradition I am going to keep and would love to see it spread across the globe.  It made me happy to do it and my friends felt happy too.  A small gesture of flowers... that's all.

So how did we do?  I am loving the foraging, you guys are great at finding some beautiful things.  This week.... I've been thinking on a theme.  Shall we have a colour?  So for next weeks image - PINK!!

Go for it.... what will you find.
See you next week.

House love...

I love this home!
A plant in every room.  The great detail in the styling. The mix of contemporary and vintage art work, collected flea market finds sit very well next to modern large pieces of furniture.  The gentle muted colour pallet of white and wood.  It is oh so delicious... I'd move in now!

This is the home of Travis and Maike McNeill.  Set in the beautiful Cape Town in my old neighbourhood of Observatory.  Perhaps I've walked past this place without realising it. (I lived and worked in Cape Town for 8 months many many moons ago - fun times).

For more images and interview please hop over to Design Sponge.

In other news... my May Loves list is up... go take a look.  And I've got a few posts to write up on our past few weekend adventures, but I just haven't found the time.... I blame the sunshine! :)  I will get on with these soon.

Have a lovely week.
